“The Baadi Palace”, Marrakech, Morroco. 2022

This series of images are part of a photographic body of work about Moroccan architecture and alleyways. In the case of this Palace I derived particular inspiration from its semi-abstract graphic qualities, using them as a vehicle to engage the viewer with images that are both abstract and quasi-figurative. In particular, in my double-exposed images I deliberately set out to play with the conventional laws of perspective, featuring what could be perceived as flat planes on the one hand and clearly-perceptible volumes on the other. All the while I search for a balance between forms, textures, colours and light. These photographs offer a range of possibilities to the viewer, providing both visual tension and harmonious balance while evoking the spirit of the place.
